It comes after the school restricted access to the bathrooms with metal gates during class time.

The controversial move has been implemented in many educational establishments across the UK as a crack down on lesson-time wasting and antisocial behaviour.

But, the strict rules sparked outrage among parents and students alike at The Wellington Academy.

Amy Parfitt kickstarted a change.org petition to see the barriers ripped down.

It is not known whether she is a pupil or parent, but Amy wrote: “Being a female, it is disgusting that there are bars on the toilets at Wellington Academy, meaning children can’t access them.

“Most girls have started their periods and therefore need access to the toilets.

“Not going to the toilet can cause numerous health problems, including urinary tract infections and severe discomfort.

“It is essential for students’ well-being and dignity that these bars are removed immediately.

“Please sign this petition to ensure all students have proper access to school toilet facilities.”

At present, the petition has reached 448 signatures out of its 500 goal.

Furious pupils also voiced their opinions under the call for change.

One fumed: “It’s a basic human right. They are taking away that right and treating us like prisoners. We are students, not rabid animals.”

Another raged: “Why am I going to a prison as a school?”

“Whoever is making these rules needs to stop. I attend TWA and these rules are so silly,” a third agreed.

“This is literally so bad, why add jail bars?? Some kid already got in trouble for getting locked in,” he continued.

He added it would be the school’s fault if “people p*ssed themselves.”

A fifth said: “I used to be a student here and this is ridiculous, bet the teachers haven’t got bars on their toilets.”

Someone else wrote: “This is against human rights and dignity.”

The Sun Online reached out to The Wellington Academy for comment.

A spokesperson said previously that the issue had been resolved.

The Wellington Academy, run by the Ascend Learning Trust, was founded in 2009,

It is a non-selective state-funded co-educational day and boarding school for those aged 11 to 19.

The Duke of York performed the official opening of the new campus in November 2011.

The rules surrounding bathroom use in various secondary schools up and down the country have ignited heated debates.

Both parents and students have been up in arms about restrictions on using the toilet during class time.

One school even putmetal cages on the facilities so they couldn’t be accessed.

Similar scenes were seen at a Stoke-on-Trent Academy which saw more than 70 pupils walk out.

Meanwhile, an East Sussex school introduced shutters on selected bathrooms during lesson time.

Elsewhere, parents slammed two schools after is was discovered they had been illegally filming pupils in the toilets.

CCTV cameras were fitted inside the bathrooms at both Ballakermeen and Castle Rushen High School, in the Isle of Man.
